The OrGanic Tracers and Aerosol Constituents Calibration Centre (OGTAC CC), hosted and operated by TROPOS ACD, is announcing the following two activities, open to members of EUROCHAMP-2020, ACTRIS-2 and to all other interested users:

1) Aerosol particle organic analytical training course, 22.01.2018 - 26.01.2018

OGTAC CC offers a hands-on training course at TROPOS ACD, Leipzig with the following elements:

  • Dedicated training at the HPLC/ESI-TOFMS and UPLC/ESI-IMS-QTOFM
  • Lectures in atmospheric particle related chemical analysis
  • Filter collection, extraction, analysis and quantification of target compounds
  • Derivatisation of filter extracts with 2,4-dinitrophenylhyrazine

The course will be held starting Monday, 22th January 2018 at TROPOS ACD in Leipzig. The course will end on Friday, 26h January 2018. Participants from Eurochamp-2020 and ACTRIS-2 should consider the participation at the training course as a part of their QA/QC measures.

How to apply?

EUROCHAMP-2020 will support the training course through its trans-national access project component (TNA). A pooled proposal for TNA from calibration centers will be put in for this course. Please indicate in your feedback if TNA support is desired for you participation to the training course.

If you wish to ask for TNA financial support, you can apply using the Training application form

Registrations must be sent to Anke Mutzel (mutzel@tropos.de) before November 30th, 2017

2) First OGTAC CC inter-laboratory comparison (ILC), second half of March 2018

An inter-laboratory comparison (ILC) will be performed to compare and validate offline analysis for particle-phase oxidation products of BVOCs.

The ILC comprises the distribution of filter samples collected in the TROPOS ACD aerosol chamber LEAK and at the TROPOS research station Melpitz(Germany)

- LEAK: Filter from BVOC oxidation (α-Pinene oxidation), focus on BSOA marker compounds

- Melpitz: Central European Research Station, Digitel PM10 filter, focus on BSOA marker compounds.

Target compounds will be: Terebic acid, Terpenylic acid, Pinic acid, Pinonic acid and 3-Methyl-1,2,3-butane-tricarboxylic acid (MBTCA).

The loaded filters will be distributed to the participating ILCs partner. Data will be collected by TROPOS, the results are then distributed to the partners.

Please note that all results can be anonymised if requested by a participating group. In the ILCs, each participant receives a number in the ILC so he can identify his own results but he has no info about the other participating labs. When detailed feedback to the single participants is given this is regularly done on a 1:1 basis between the OGTAC CC operators and each participant. Group discussion should be conducted so that anonymity of the partners can be held.

This way the ILC is open to participants which are starting newly without exposing them to criticism of the whole group, as we are aiming at having really new users which possibly have never done work as this before. In publications anonymity can be kept or opened as the co-authors decide.

The due date for the analysis results submission is two month after dispatch of samples to the participating laboratories.

Participants from Eurochamp-2020 and ACTRIS-2 should consider the participation at the ILC as a part of their QA/QC measures.

How to apply?

In order to register for the call, you can apply using the ILC application form.

Registrations should be sent to Anke Mutzel (mutzel@tropos.de) before November 30th, 2017
